The BJJ Lifestyle

JIU JITSU FOR KIDS

We help parents raise over-achievers through jiu jitsu and fun.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu stands out as the most effective martial art globally, emphasizing grappling along with fostering a community of respect.

Children learn to manage self-defense situations safely without needing to resort to punching or striking.

For those interested, regular competitions offer opportunities for setting long-term goals, enhancing commitment, and building mental resilience.

These events also maintain children’s enthusiasm during their training journey. Parents particularly appreciate seeing their children grow in respect, discipline, and focus!

Kids Jiu Jitsu AT Hero

Why Jiu Jitsu Is Great For Kids

Hero Jiu Jitsu boosts confidence and strength through programs designed specifically for children and teens, with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the heart of our curriculum. Martial arts are well-known for fostering character and discipline, and jiu-jitsu offers additional benefits:

Practical

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teaches effective self-defense through escapes and holds, avoiding kicks or punches to reduce the risk of brain injuries. It's especially helpful for children facing bullying, as it equips them to restrain an attacker until help arrives. Even smaller or less strong children can confidently defend themselves against bigger peers using jiu-jitsu techniques.

Engages the brain.

Jiu-jitsu is like playing a physical version of chess, constantly thinking ahead and adapting your moves based on your opponent's actions.

Builds interpersonal communication skills

Without the distraction of phones or earbuds, kids engage directly with their coach and peers, enjoying games and picking up new physical skills together.

Discipline.

Kids attend classes regularly to master new techniques each week, preparing for advancement and competitions. Although promotions take time and are harder to obtain in BJJ, they earn stripes as they progress toward higher belt levels.

Making new friends.

Having a supportive network of friends can be crucial, sometimes even life-saving. Feeling backed by a team of people who share your views offers a strong sense of safety and boosts confidence. Even shy and introverted individuals find comfort and a sense of belonging in such environments.

My wife Melissa and I have been students of Hector Rosario for close to two years now and love the training, atmosphere, and people on the mats at Hero BJJ. The instruction is excellent and we've made a second family with the crew that we roll with each week. If you're interested in trying BJJ, I highly recommend it! We're both in our late 40's, so you're never to old to start!

We are so happy with our new gym, HERO. Our kids (4 & 6) have an absolute blast at every class and we love watching them learn and grow. The facility is super clean and comfortable to be at (especially when you’re there for hours at a time). The coaches truly care about each and every kid. We couldn’t be happier at HERO.

I highly recommend Hero Jiu Jitsu Academy. The instructors are top notch - they are not only knowledgeable about the sport, but also create a friendly and fun atmosphere. There is always music playing, there are fun theme nights, and while people all work really hard, there are also a lot of laughs on and off the mats. I love that there is a welcoming and supportive group of women at the gym, and that they offer a women's only class. That being said, I also always feel safe training with the male students here as well.

Hero jiu jitsu is like a second home for my children. My boys have been training with Coach Tony for 6 years and 3 years. He plays such an important role in their lives and has shaped them in so many ways. The confidence and perseverance that jiu jitsu has taught them shows in everything they do on and off the mat.

I've trained at a lot of spots over the years and Hero is my favorite by a long shot. Friendliest crew I've ever trained with and the most dynamic program I've ever seen. If you're a middle-aged guy like me that just wants to roll and work out or you want to be a serious competitor, they've got something for everyone.
